Why Order Your Custom Bergara Rifle Today with Dan Hanus
You may be asking why Bergara is producing a series of articles on its custom rifles after most hunting seasons have ended. But right now is the perfect time to order that custom rifle, so you can hold the rifle in your hands, get out to the range, start shooting, become familiar with the rifle and build the confidence you need in that rifle to shoot as accurately as possible. The most-important component in shooting accurately is the hunter’s marksmanship. You don’t get consistent accuracy as a shooter without spending time on the range with your rifle. Bergara builds accurate rifles, but you have to build yourself as an accurate shooter. We can provide the best rifle with the best scope and the best component parts, but if you don’t become the best shooter you can be, then you won’t get the accuracy you want.
If you order one of our standard models now in the spring, we have those components in our Bergara Custom Rifle Shop. We can build those rifles and have them in your hands 30 to 60 days from the time you’ve placed the order. If we have to order unique parts or unique calibers, having those delivered may lengthen the delivery time by 30 to 45 more days. Since most custom gun shops’ wait time is 12 to 18 months, hunters are really excited to get their custom Bergara rifles built 30 to 60 days from the time they’ve ordered them. We’re averaging about 12 custom gun orders every 30 days now in April, so I think we’ll get really busy in August and September. If you’ve always dreamed of having a custom rifle built just for you, put your order in today to avoid the rush, and give yourself enough time to learn the gun before the season.
One of the most-popular guns we’ve been building lately is the Winchester .300 Short Mag, a caliber that seems to be gaining in popularity nationwide. I’m not sure why that is, but it’s a very-good caliber with quality, long-range accuracy. The .308 Winchester and the .300 Winchester Magnum are two other calibers in high demand. I’d say 90 percent of the rifles we’re building right now are in these three calibers. The most-popular whitetail caliber is the .308, since most white-tailed hunters don’t need to shoot more than 300 yards to take them. But the .308 has the potential to shoot out to 1,000 yards, depending on the amount of time a customer spends shooting and learning the gun. We always recommend our customers try three-different manufacturers’ cartridges and experiment with 150 to 180 grains of powder to find out what cartridge, bullet and powder produce the best accuracy in each custom-made Bergara rifle. If our customers provide the scope and request that we sight-in the rifle and scope for them, we’ll do this and provide the test target we’ve used to make the final adjustments on that particular rifle.
