Bergara Expands Its Manufacturing With Rick Wood
When I was hired by BPI Outdoors (parent company of Bergara USA) 4 years ago, they had the vision of manufacturing Premium Bergara barrels here in Georgia. I have been on BPI Outdoors National Pro Staff for 15 years and during this time have developed a great relationship with CEO Dudley McGarity and COO/President Nate Treadaway.
My background consists of having over 34 years in the machining business, and 30 of those years were spent with one company. When Bergara had the vision to start additional barrel manufacturing here in the USA it was a great fit for both of us. We started this project in our warehouse here in Duluth, GA with only three machines, a machining center, a lathe, and a mill. Because of the demand for Bergara products and the growth we were having, we were forced within one year to start looking for a larger building. Also, with more space comes the need for more key people to help run the shop. The first key employee we hired was Deric Sauls. Deric owned his own business for several years and comes with a vast knowledge for production manufacturing, machining, and programming experience. The second key employee was Ken Smallwood. Ken has a background in Machining, Quality Inspection, running CMM’s, and design work / print with SolidWorks. Our third key addition was Mike Blair, who is a very experienced machinist. Mike has great knowledge in setups and programming for several types of machines. With the ongoing demand for our products, and the addition of our new machines we were excited to move the manufacturing to a new building. On July 1st we made the move into our current facility in Lawrenceville, Ga. It is a 12,000 sq ft building with 8,000 sq ft of that being for manufacturing and to house our 7 other machines we had to buy to keep up with demand. As of today we have 7 CNC and 3 manual machines with and solid plans for adding more in the near future. We also have a 1500 sq ft metrology lab where we inspect our barrels with the use of a Zeiss CMM, a comparator, a surface finish tester, and other equipment.
With all of the additions to the Bergara Company, whether it is metal, man, or location. We are continuing to meet the growing demand from our customers and strive to “exceed their expectations”.
